Daphne Howland is the lead reporter at Retail Dive and co-host of the publication’s "The Backroom" podcast. She covers many topics in the industry including apparel, real estate, department stores and more.

Her investigation into the National Retail Federation’s statistics on retail crime and shrink, revealing major inaccuracies in the data, garnered national attention. Her coverage has received numerous awards, including the Azbee Awards of Excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors and the Jesse H. Neal Award.

Before joining the team at Retail Dive about a decade ago, Howland was a contributor at several national and regional publications, including the Village Voice, Dallas Morning News and Christian Science Monitor, and was a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow.
