Dive Brief:
-
North Wilkesboro, NC-based home and garden retailer Lowe’s has announced plans to hire 30,000 store associates this spring.
-
The seasonal workers hired for the busy spring and summer months, from February to September, will work about 20 hours per week. Hiring has begun in states like Florida, California, Texas, and Arizona where warmer weather is already spurring home improvement projects.
-
The plans include hiring 5,000 more seasonal employees than last year, a number that is fewer than the 45,000 hired in 2013, however.
Dive Insight:
The economy is humming a bit more robustly these days, and in many areas that includes improvement in the housing market. But Lowe’s is exercising a bit more caution than in 2013 as wages, even in this vastly improved economic picture, remain stagnant.
