Walmart, which recently told investors that it would be relying more on robots in both stores and its fulfillment network, is laying off 953 workers at its distribution center in Chino, California, according to a WARN notice filed with the state’s Employment Development Department. The layoffs are listed as permanent, though the facility is not listed as closing, per the filing.
Walmart didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
The retail giant has been laying off hundreds at e-commerce facilities nationwide in recent weeks, including in Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey. With the Chino center, 3,267 workers are affected.
