Dive Brief:
-
Twitter is testing two new ways to smooth shopping on the social media site, according to a company blog post Friday, and says it will be rolling out even more in coming months.
-
The first announced Friday is product and place pages, a pilot featuring images and video of products and places that will come up and be organized according to a user’s followers and interests. The pages will include information and in some cases a buy button.
-
The second is more of a curation, which Twitter is launching with a few collections from “influencers” like Amanda Palmer and The Ellen Show, as well as retailers, including Reese Witherspoon (for her Draper James site), Target (for swim and summer), and Nike (for its LeBron James collection), and others.
Dive Insight:
Twitter, like all social media, has been keen to find ways to boost its commerce. These moves show, pointedly, that Twitter has more to announce than the imminent departure of CEO Dick Costolo and the search for his replacement. The site’s interim CEO, founder Jack Dorsey, has said he’s not interested in the position.
“This is just the beginning. In the coming months we’ll be testing more new experiences we hope give you the most personalized and relevant information about the places and things you want to explore,” the company said in its post.
