Dive Brief:
-
Target doesn’t sell clip-on ties, and that could have been a problem for a teenager last week just ahead of a job interview.
-
But store associates helped him find a tie and tie the traditional "four-in-hand" knot. They then gave him some added encouragement and advice about how to conduct himself when he got to the interview.
-
The moment was witnessed by another customer at the Raleigh, NC store, and her photo and description have gone viral on social media.
Dive Insight:
While retailers these days are turning to technology and store format to pump up their in-store “customer experience,” this happenstance at Target may be just as important to the survival of the brick-and-mortar store. And the moment is getting nearly the same attention garnered by the retailer's $8 million ad with the band Imagine Dragons during Sunday's Grammys broadcast.
The witness who saw it all unfold posted on Facebook, with the photo:
The Target team member took the time to help the nervous teen put on his new tie, tuck in his shirt and then showed him how to give a proper handshake and tackle a few tough interview questions! As the kid exited the store, a bunch of supportive Target team members cheered him on! THIS is true customer service – Right on the mark, Target!!
