Dive Brief:
-
Target Corp. has tapped former Gilt Groupe vice chairman and CEO of Gilt Groupe Japan Peter Glusker to be senior vice president of new business integration and operations.
-
The move continues Target’s departure from its usual practice of promoting from within. The retailer recently named technology consultant Bob DeRodes as its new chief information officer and said it is looking for a new CEO from outside the company.
-
The retailer also announced Tuesday that it has fired its Target Canada CEO, Tony Fisher, effective immediately, and is replacing him with 15-year company veteran Mark Schindele, U.S. SVP of merchandising operations.
Dive Insight:
Target Corp. has been buffeted by the massive data breach of late last year, something that is having less of an drag on customer loyalty than at first glance. But many believe the retailer is battling other problems as well, including its poor showing in Canada and lackluster performance at home. Glusker’s arrival later this month (and the replacement of its Canada CEO) looks to be part of an effort to turn things around and change the insular culture that many have said has been working against it.
