Dive Insight:
Hiring from outside didn’t use to come easy to Target, something which it has been criticized for in the past. The retailer appears to be getting used to the idea as it expands, and presumably improves, its technology and digital efforts. Target’s website has been seen as a drag, and its major problem with payment security left it stumbling into the new year. With this level of talent, the retailer could begin playing catchup — or possibly better.
