Dive Brief:
-
Target Corp. said last week that it plans to test same-day delivery in its home city of Minneapolis, as well as in Boston and Miami.
-
For $10, shoppers in the test areas will be to place orders as late as 1:30 pm for evening delivery.
-
The company is also beginning a ship-from-store service to help speed up delivery on standard-shipping orders and is expanding its in-store pickup service.
Dive Insight:
Target has been criticized for lagging behind in its e-commerce efforts. The expansion of in-store pickup and the launch of ship-from-store fulfillment could help it compete. And while same-day delivery may turn out to be a dubious amenity, the retailer is showing that it won’t be left behind in that fulfillment trend.
