Dive Brief:
-
Marigay McKee is stepping down as Saks Fifth Avenue president after just a little over a year on the job.
-
She’s replaced by Marc Metrick, who worked in Saks’ merchandising strategy teams for 15 years, becoming parent company Hudson’s Bay’s marketing chief in 2012 as its marketing chief and chief administrative officer in 2013.
-
McKee had arrived at Saks in 2014 after a stint revamping famed luxury department store Harrods.
Dive Insight:
McKee made a few bold moves at Saks, including bringing in more high-fashion, more expensive clothing and other items, sometimes from unknown designers. It’s not clear if that was what led to her departure — Hudson’s Bay executive chairman Richard Baker is only saying that the “fit wasn’t perfect.” But sometimes even though a person is tapped to make significant changes, those significant changes can be hard for a company to stomach.
