Dive Brief:
-
A new survey by United Parcel Service has found that consumers prefer shopping on websites over mobile sites or apps. UPS and digital analytics company comScore Inc. surveyed 5,800 consumers for the third annual UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper Study.
-
41% of those surveyed said they prefer a website over a mobile site (34%) or app (25%). A third said they’ve been influenced by social media; a half of millennial shoppers said so.
-
A whopping 83% said they’d happily wait two days for delivery for free shipping; another 82% said they’re more likely to complete their purchase if returns are free or could be made at a store.
Dive Insight:
Even as e-commerce has surged in recent years, this study bolsters the idea that consumers’ expectations of shopping on the web have risen. Shoppers want retail websites to be coordinated with stores, especially for things like returns. And, at least for now, mobile sites and apps aren’t competing with full websites.
