Dive Brief:
-
Ten months after a major data breach, Neiman Marcus Group Inc. has hired Sarah Hendrickson as chief information security officer, a new position at the company.
-
For the past year Hendrickson has been CISO at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, and before that has worked in IT security at Dell Inc., J.C. Penney, and other companies.
-
Since January she has also been a “Google GLASS Explorer,” helping to beta-test Google’s wearables.
Dive Insight:
Neiman Marcus was criticized for being slow to reveal the data breach after it was discovered around the holidays last year, though that was in part due to law enforcement’s efforts to discover the hackers’ identities without tipping them off. In the end, although the Neiman Marcus breach was dwarfed by the one that occurred at Target around the same time, it turned out to be the work of more sophisticated hackers — who got their hands on credit cards with presumably higher lines of credit.
In any case, having a CISO in place at Neiman Marcus is something that couldn’t come too soon.
