Dive Brief:
-
The first six months of 2014 saw 38% of online commerce coming from a mobile device, although conversion rates remain lower on mobile, according to e-commerce platform company ShopVisible’s annual Influence and Impact report for quarters one and two.
-
The bump comes from a 20% increase in the total sales volume and an 11% increase in the number of items sold per transaction. Web traffic overall rose 9%, according to the report.
-
Meanwhile, a measurement of app engagement by analytics vendor Mobidia Inc. for Internet Retailer found that 42% of mobile sales of Internet Retailer’s top 500 retailers will come from mobile apps.
Dive Insight:
Apps and mobile websites must work well for shoppers to complete their purchases — and to do all the shopping activity that comes before that. Retailers have a lot to consider: Consumers are already engaged on mobile, and that’s increasing. But many apps aren't ready, and many retail websites don't do well on mobile.
