Dive Brief:
-
JetBlue passengers will be able to enjoy Amazon’s streaming or downloaded content in the air, thanks to a new deal between the airline and the retailer, the companies announced Tuesday.
-
Amazon Prime members will get that perk for free, the companies said.
-
Amazon may even subsidize free in-flight Wifi to boost participation, according to a report by Fortune magazine.
Dive Insight:
The benefits of being an Amazon Prime member keep accruing, this time into the sky. Amazon’s potential role in helping pay for JetBlue’s in-flight Wifi would clearly benefit the retailer and possibly even its in-flight sales.
And it could be “the most comprehensive offering of entertainment content for any airline anywhere in the world,” according to Henry Harteveldt, a founder of the travel-focused Atmosphere Research Group, Fortune says. JetBlue passengers may end up enjoying faster Wifi that is usually found in flight because most airlines don’t support Wifi fast enough for streaming, according to Harteveldt.
