Dive Brief:
-
Modern-design home goods e-retailer Fab is denying a report that its recent struggles are so great that the company will be shut down by the end of the year.
-
In a post called “Fab.com Is Probably Dead This Year,” Valleywag blogger Sam Biddle wrote that company sources told him that recent layoffs and cost-cutting weren't meant to help the company turn around, but rather the start of a process to shut it down.
-
Fab CEO Jason Goldberg vehemently, to say the least, denied Valleywag’s report on Twitter and a company spokesperson said that Fab has plenty of money to stay in business for years. In fact, the company reported Thursday that it is buying a Finnish furniture e-retailer.
Dive Insight:
Time will tell if what Valleywag blogger Sam Biddle’s sources say is true — that Fab’s days are numbered. Certainly the e-retailer hasn’t made good on the expectations investors once had in the modern-design home goods sensation. And CEO Jason Goldberg’s intemperate reaction appears, at least, to be a signal of stress.
