Dive Brief:
-
Swedish fast-fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) on Monday reported that January sales rose 15%.
-
The company had forecast the growth in its own fourth quarter report, as did retail analysts.
-
The retailer has also spent January making announcements of new stores in places as far-flung as India and the Bronx.
Dive Insight:
Nothing too surprising to see here. H&M’s January sales boost was in line with expectations. But that’s more than some retailers can say — especially on the discount side, where H&M lives. The retailer has continued expanding globally, and recently announced sustainable practices like recycled-denim products and closer attention to ensuring more humane workforce policies in its factories.
