The gallon price on average rose 12.72 cents to $2.1963 between Jan. 23 and Feb. 6.

But even with this rise, the prices remain more than a dollar lower than a year ago, Lundberg found.

The price of gas is not done climbing, according to Lundberg Survey president Trilby Lundberg. While gas is still relatively inexpensive compared to a year ago, the free-fall of fuel prices may be over, along with any benefit to retailers. According to some analysis, lower gas prices along with an improved employment forecast and economic outlook report, have helped sales increase in recent weeks.
