Dive Brief:
-
CEO Brian Cornell came on this summer after a massive data breach and a disastrous Canadian expansion left the retailer in turmoil.
-
Now he's shaking up his executive suite. Casey Carl will move into the leadership team, reporting directly to Cornell. Laysha Ward was promoted to EVP and chief corporate social responsibility officer, and Jason Goldberger is now president of Target’s web and mobile commerce. Dawn Block is now SVP of target.com and mobile merchandising.
-
Finally, John Hulbert is VP investor relations, and CMO Jeff Jones will get more responsibility, including boosting customer experience.
Dive Insight:
Target has been steadily righting the ship since its woes of last year, and now it looks like CEO Brian Cornell aims to start the next new year out strong. The company has been bursting through its complacent and insular image by uncharacteristically hiring from outside lately, including the hire of Cornell himself. These changes should help Target continue to move into a new, and hopefully for its sake, right direction.
