Dive Brief:
-
Crate and Barrel last week said that Doug Diemoz will become its CEO Aug. 1.
-
Diemoz has been Restoration Hardware’s chief development officer since 2014, has held positions at MEXX, Williams-Sonoma, and Gap, and has two decades of retail experience.
-
About a year ago, Crate and Barrel CEO Sascha Bopp and president Marta Calle both resigned within weeks of each other.
Dive Insight:
Crate and Barrel has been a bit at sea since the death last year of long-time executive and board member Barbara Turf, who was known for leading the company, as CEO and in other positions, with creativity and flair.
But, though it could use some good direction, the retailer retains its solid reputation for affordable, European-style home goods and furniture. Diemoz hales from one of the most successful stories in retail of late: Restoration Hardware has been able to avoid promotional pricing and has remained dedicated to physical stores and even its huge print catalog.
"Doug is a great cultural fit for our brands," Neela Montgomery, head of the Crate and Barrel board, said in a statement. "I am confident that he will promote change that builds on the heritage of our brands."
