Dive Brief:
-
George Fairweather, the former group finance director of U.K. drugstore retailer Alliance Boots, has been named executive vice president and global CFO of the newly merged Walgreens Boots Alliance, the company announced Monday.
-
Fairweather as of Feb. 20 will succeed Timothy McLevish, who will stay on to work on the transition of the new company’s financial operations.
-
Late last year former Walgreens CFO Wade Miquelon sued the retailer, saying his former employer defamed him in the press, particularly the Wall Street Journal, when it blamed him for a $1 billion forecasting error.
Dive Insight:
Now that Alliance Boots and Walgreens have come together as one company, the newly giant drugstore retailer must shuffle its C-suite and its operations. Former Alliance Boots chairman Stefano Pessina was named acting CEO earlier, and is widely seen as having a big influence on shaping the new executive ranks of the merged company.
