ORLANDO, FL – October 27, 2017--ACME AtronOmatic, LLC, makers of the MyRadar Weather Radar mobile application for iOS, Android, Windows and other devices, announced today a unique collaboration with Cloud Imperium Games (CIG), the creators of the upcoming Star Citizen video game.
CIG is developing the hotly anticipated Star Citizen massively-multiplayer space trading and combat video game through its development studios in Frankfurt, the UK, Austin and Los Angeles. Widely accepted as the largest crowed-funded project in history, the company has, to-date, raised over $162 million dollars from the public to fund the development and release of the game. Part of the gameplay content includes the ability to seamlessly fly a virtual space ship across the stars and onto virtual planets, moons and space stations.
MyRadar, the popular weather radar app with over 10 million active monthly users, traditionally shows weather across the United States and around the globe, but has expanded its data visualization capabilities by offering satellite imagery for other celestial bodies, including Mars. The collaboration with CIG allows users to explore three of the moons from the upcoming title directly within the MyRadar app, including the ability to pan around the moons, and to zoom in to see each moon’s unique landscape and features.
“This is a really cool and unique way to put our data visualization technology to work,” said Andy Green, CEO of ACME. “In bringing virtual worlds into view, players and explorers alike can take a virtual trip to another planet.”
MyRadar has introduced a number of weather data-visualization tools over the years, including the ability to display animated wind patterns, temperature maps, earthquake events, and tropical cyclone systems, to name a few. The foray into virtual worlds will allow the company to explore different ways of visualizing other modeled data from any number of simulations, including the potential for additional data from Star Citizen.
“Andy Green and his MyRadar team came to us with the idea to include elements of Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 in the latest update to their outstanding weather app,” said CIG CEO Chris Roberts. “We were excited by the possibility and provided them with some of the data from the Moons of 3.0 created by our soon to debut procedural planet technology. Now MyRadar users can explore the moons of Yela, Cellin and Daymar while they are searching for their latest weather forecasts.“
The Star Citizen moon exploration feature in MyRadar is free to download and available now for iOS, in the Apple App store, and for Android, in the Google Play store. Click to download here.
About Cloud Imperium Games and Roberts Space Industries
Cloud Imperium Games Corporation and its subsidiary Roberts Space Industries™ Corp. were founded in April 2012 by renowned game developer Chris Roberts (Wing Commander, Freelancer, Privateer) and his business partner and long-time international media attorney Ortwin Freyermuth. Operating from Los Angeles and Austin under Roberts’ leadership and using his long-standing relationships in the game space, Cloud Imperium quickly assembled a top tier development team for the creation of art assets, story elements, and an extensive prototype for Star Citizen. Once UK-based Erin Roberts joined in 2013 to contribute his extensive background in game production, the Roberts and Freyermuth added CIG’s international operations in Manchester, UK to develop the mission driven Squadron 42 which is set in Star Citizen’s first person universe. They added a fourth office in Frankfurt, Germany in 2015 to take advantage of the growing development talent in that region. And in 2016 a fifth studio was created in Derby, UK where the focus currently is on facial animation. Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are being marketed and launched via www.robertsspaceindustries.com.
