Walmart GoLocal, the retail giant’s white-label delivery service, has surpassed 1 million deliveries, Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon said on an earnings call Tuesday.
McMillon didn’t specify when GoLocal hit the delivery milestone, but the announcement comes as GoLocal is set to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its launch later this month. The same-day and next-day delivery service has been used by major retail chains like The Home Depot, but it is also pursuing business with smaller, local clients including in the food and beverage space.
"We continue to sign up larger-scale customers and we're making strides on the bigger unlock, which are small- and medium-sized businesses," McMillon said. "Our technology and expertise will help so many of these businesses grow while contributing to our operating margins over time."
Walmart GoLocal, which uses drivers on the company's Spark Driver platform, expects to be delivering from 5,000 retail and business locations by the end of the year, McMillon added.
GoLocal's expansion coincides with Walmart’s push to grow different lines of business outside of in-store sales. For example, Walmart has nearly doubled the coverage area of its InHome grocery delivery service and is offering InHome as an add-on to its Walmart + membership service.
In Q2, Walmart U.S. saw e-commerce net sales growth of 12% year over year, while net sales overall grew 7.1%.
"We're becoming more digital, even more relevant as an omnichannel retailer, and the related businesses like fulfillment and advertising continue to grow," McMillon said.
