Walmart has begun to roll out a new inventory-focused offering as part of Walmart Fulfillment Services, its third-party marketplace for sellers, according to a June LinkedIn post.
“Our new solution allows for the seamless and efficient transfer of inventory to Walmart fulfillment centers, optimizing supply chain logistics and enabling faster delivery to customers,” Jaré Buckley-Cox, vice president of Walmart Fulfillment Services, said in the LinkedIn post.
Buckley-Cox said the new Inventory Transfer Services will help sellers improve inventory availability, save costs by sending goods to one centralized location, and offer faster shipping times due to improved two-day and next-day shipping coverage.
“Sellers with high-demand inventory will have the ability to leverage ITS for sortable inventory," Buckley-Cox said.
The retail giant began rolling out Walmart Fulfillment Services in 2020. At the time, executives told sister publication Supply Chain Dive fulfillment services were as much about driving in-demand products to Walmart.com as they were about driving additional revenue from its existing e-commerce infrastructure.
In a world where sellers have various options to choose from, Walmart and others like Amazon, Shipbob, Flowspace and Shopify have sought to build their own platforms tailored to e-tailers.
