- Wal-Mart announced that it is recalling a "Five Spice" donkey meat product being sold in the Chinese province of Shandong after DNA tests showed that the snacks contained fox.
- Donkey meat is a considered a delicacy in some parts of China, and fox meat is usually much cheaper.

Food products including honey and olive oil in China have also suffered instances of fraud, leading many consumers to look to foreign products. (Although 2013's Fonterra milk scare showed that even some non-Chinese products aren't immune to scandals in the country.)
