Dive Insight:
Snapchat's collaboration with Verishop signals the platform's further foray into AR as a driver for its e-commerce business.
The Verishop integration with Snapchat will also position the startup in front of Snapchat's 280 million daily users, according to the announcement. Snapchat's Minis platform aims to create a social shopping experience within the app featuring items selected for them, Alston Cheek, director of platform partnerships at Snap Inc., noted in a statement.
In December, Snapchat integrated Perfect Corp.'s cosmetic testing technology and acquired the AR fitting platform Fit Analytics in March. And in addition to the partnership with Verishop, the social app has created a similar shopping experience with Poshmark in May and developed an AR shoppable jeans guide for American Eagle in February.
Since last year, Verishop has added new features as other platforms lean further into social commerce. Last summer, the company debuted its shoppable content tools on the app, joining other platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Google in the shoppable content space. The app added social shopping features last November, allowing users to post photos and videos, tag items and follow other users and brands. In December, Verishop introduced its Shop Party feature, which lets users shop alongside each other while video chatting.
"Verishop is a new kind of shopping platform, offering easy discovery of unique products through an entertaining shopping experience. We're passionate about helping independent brands be successful and building features to help these brands connect with the consumer," Verishop co-founder & CEO Imran Khan said in a statement. "We're excited to introduce Verishop to the Snap community, and will continue to extend our platform, as we have with this partnership."
