Dive Insight:
“These communities have seen several hundred military families furloughed due to the shutdown of the federal government this week,” said Mark Yowell, regional vice president for United Supermarkets.
With furloughs in effect, the company clearly sees customers who may be short on cash and could use a savings-related incentive to shop. (Of course, the decision has the added benefit of raising United Supermarkets' profile as a military family supporter while publicizing its discount program that was already in existence.)
The program is currently active at all eight United Supermarket and Market Street locations.
