Ulta Beauty Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Crossan-Matos is exiting the company, according to a LinkedIn post Wednesday. An Ulta spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on when exactly Crossan-Matos is exiting and the succession plan regarding her position.
For her part, Crossan-Matos said she was “excited to embark on my next chapter” and would share what that was soon. She has held the chief marketer position for about two years.
“After a few awesome years at Ulta beauty, the time has come to leave and take on a new challenge,” Crossan-Matos said in her post. “As many of you know, coming back home to Beauty was special for me. I am humbled and feel privileged that I was able to work with the most amazing thought leaders, brand partners and founders so we could harness the power of beauty as a force for good.”
Crossan-Matos’ departure comes just a few weeks after Ulta CEO Dave Kimbell announced his retirement, with Chief Operating Officer Kecia Steelman taking over that position as of Jan. 6. Chief Merchandising Officer Monica Arnaudo also plans to leave her role at Ulta Beauty this spring, and the retailer is currently looking for her replacement.
The last couple of years have seen Ulta lean into wellness, including through specific wellness spaces in stores and the launch of its Joy Council, a collective of wellness leaders across disciplines tasked with creating custom content for the beauty retailer.
The retailer also revamped its loyalty program in December 2023, including switching the name to Ulta Beauty Rewards and adding an improved birthday gift perk. A solid loyalty offering is particularly important to Ulta, which has said previously that 95% of its sales come from loyalty members. The program itself continues to grow, with members increasing 5% to 44.4 million in Q3.
