Sophia Hwang-Judiesch has been named president of The Bay and Hudson’s Bay.
Hwang-Judiesch was first appointed president of Hudson’s Bay in September, when she began leading the store organization including the execution of the company’s in-store digital selling operations, customer experience and store optimization strategy. Now she is also taking control of the digital side of the business, The Bay.
The Bay and Hudson's Bay operate under the HBC brand portfolio. The company split its store fleet and e-commerce businesses into two separate businesses in 2021.
The Bay’s current President and CEO Iain Nairn is retiring this month after nearly 50 years in retail. Nairn first came to Hudson’s Bay in 2020 and oversaw the launch of the company’s online marketplace.
"We thank Iain for his tremendous contributions to The Bay as we continue to deliver exciting and relevant experiences for the Canadian customer,” Governor and Executive Chairman of HBC, Richard Baker, said in a statement. “As Sophia takes the reins, I'm confident her strategic and operational leadership will help drive performance, grow market share and elevate the customer journey even further."
Hwang-Judiesch previously worked for Ulta Beauty as vice president of strategic initiatives for Ulta Beauty at Target. She also held leadership roles at Carters and Esprit, according to her LinkedIn profile.
