Dive Insight:
RadioShack is not gone and trying not to be forgotten after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April. The chain has launched a social media campaign featuring videos starring comedians Orlando Jones, who dances with shoppers while singing the campaign theme song, “The Shack is Back,” and Carlos Mencia, who shops for Father’s Day gifts.
Hedge fund Standard General acquired more than 1,700 store leases and rights to the RadioShack name earlier this year, exiting bankruptcy as RS Legacy Corp., but another lender, Salus Capital Partners, is pushing for a full Chapter 7 liquidation of the chain. RadioShack hopes to iron out these differences and relaunch its e-commerce site later this year.
