After 12 years in the top role, PrettyLittleThing Chief Executive Officer and founder Umar Kamani has stepped down from the position.
Kamani will support the apparel brand on some projects over the next several months while it searches for a new CEO, according to details emailed to Retail Dive.
The Manchester, United Kingdom-founded brand is focused on selling fast and affordable clothing, dropping new products on a daily basis. Under Kamani’s leadership, PrettyLittleThing has collaborated with celebrities such as Kourtney Kardashian and Hailey Bieber.
“If you know me, you’ll know that Disneyland and all the magic surrounding it has always been one of my biggest inspirations,” Kamani said in a statement. “This is what I wanted to create with PrettyLittleThing, a fairytale-like world where unicorns exist, and anything is possible. A place you come to find confidence and inspiration when it comes to what you wear and how you feel. Whatever success we have achieved is down to you, our loyal customers who have shopped with us, supported us and watched us grow into something beyond what I could have ever dreamed of.”
PrettyLittleThing is owned by Boohoo, which also houses the brands Nasty Gal and Karen Millen, among others.
Boohoo in January reported its earnings for the four months prior, showing that total revenue dropped 11% from the year before. Gross margin was at 49.7%, which Boohoo said was broadly within expectations, and its inventory was reduced by 27% year over year. For the year ended Feb. 28, Boohoo said it expects a revenue decline of 12% over the financial year.
