Dive Brief:
- PayPal is extending its One Touch payment product to websites accessed via desktop and mobile.
- After entering their user names and passwords once, shoppers will be able to make "one touch" payments on sites accepting PayPal without entering the information again.
- PayPal will begin rolling out the option this week to merchants that already accept PayPal payments.
Dive Insight:
PayPal has beaten Apple Pay to the punch where web payments are concerned, rolling out a simplified payment system that allows repeat users to complete payments with just a couple of clicks wherever PayPal is accepted.
One Touch is similar to the single-click payments system available to Amazon.com customers following log-in. After entering their user name and password once, returning shoppers can simply click to choose PayPal, and click again to confirm a shipping address and source of funds.
One Touch for may prove more popular than the One Touch app, which PayPal debuted last year. The app has helped partner e-commerce companies increase sales, PayPal says.
