Dive Brief:
- Nordstrom announced on March 4 the launch of a dedicated space, “The Corner,” inside its New York City flagship for pop-up events and brand takeovers, according to a press release sent to Retail Dive.
-
The launch of Bode at The Corner is an “immersive retail experience featuring men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, one-of-a-kind garments made from antique textiles, and hand-illustrated pieces,” according to Nordstrom. Luxury brand Bode is the first to use the space.
-
Bode at The Corner will be open at the shop’s location, on 57th and Broadway, through April 7 and online at Nordstrom.com. Items range from $198 to $2,200.
Dive Insight:
The shop comes on the heels of the retailer’s fourth-quarter earnings call March 5 in which it reported that net sales rose 2.2% to $4.3 billion and total revenue rose 2.3% to $4.4 billion. Executives on the conference call told analysts both new store openings and improved assortments contributed to the increase.
“We are excited to launch The Corner at Nordstrom with Bode and bring Emily’s vision of American luxury to life in an immersive way,” said Olivia Kim, senior vice president of creative merchandising, in a statement. “The Corner offers the opportunity for partner brands to express their point of view authentically and holistically design the space as if it was their own.”
The pop-up store format is one many brands are using to offer more in-store retail experiences. Last year, Spanx introduced a pop-up store format series reaching New York City, Washington, D.C., and Miami. For the holidays, Shein and Forever 21 as well as Macy’s and Anne Klein partnered to debut their seasonal store events.
In addition to opening a pop-up space in New York City, the company opened 19 new Rack stores in 2023 and plans to add another 22 this year, according to Tuesday’s earnings call.
Nordstrom closed both its San Francisco flagship and off-price Rack store last year, saying the downtown location’s market had dramatically changed in recent years, affecting foot traffic. Additionally, the retailer shut its Canadian operations last year, closing six Nordstrom and seven Rack stores in the country as well as its website.
