Dive Insight:
In the years after WHP Global acquired Anne Klein in 2019 for an undisclosed sum, the fashion brand has worked with Macy’s to expand its reach. In 2021, the department store introduced Anne Klein’s new home collection, including comforter sets, washcloths, towels and decorative pillows. The collection drew inspiration from the founder’s design archives and events she hosted in her homes.
The brand’s expansion into home goods continued last year when it debuted its furniture collection. Created via a licensing deal with Nova Design, Anne Klein featured pieces of living room, dining room, bedroom, outdoor and home office furniture.
Under its new owner, Anne Klein now counts other companies like Bonobos, Babies R Us, Toys R Us and Express as sister brands. In addition to Anne Klein, Macy’s partnered with Toys R Us in 2021 to create shop-in-shops in 400 stores and by the following year accelerated that partnership to every Macy’s location.
But as Macy’s works with WHP Global subsidiaries, the department store reportedly received a buyout offer. Two major Macy’s investors, Arkhouse and Brigade Capital, are in talks to take the department store private in a $5.8 billion deal, The Wall Street Journal reported this week. Arkhouse, Brigade Capital and Macy’s all declined to comment to Retail Dive on the matter.
