Dive Insight:
Curology is expanding access to its nonprescription items, like its cleanser and sunscreen, at various retailers, allowing existing customers to grab and go while placing its items in front of potential customers. The teledermatology company’s core business includes offering its subscribers prescription formulas shipped to their door after creating an account and completing a skin quiz.
"We know consumers take a personalized approach to their skin care routine,” Michelle LeBlanc, vice president of merchandising, beauty and personal care at CVS Health, said in a statement. “In adding Curology's nonprescription skin care to our assortment at select CVS Pharmacy stores and online at CVS.com, we're excited to provide consumers access to even more high-quality options that address a wide range of skin health needs.”
Curology’s skin care addresses concerns like acne, dark spots, dry skin, rosacea and more. Founded by dermatologists in the skin care space, the DTC brand has since expanded its treatment options. In February, the brand expanded its offering to include prescription hair care for hair loss. It follows a similar process to its skin care subscription, consisting of a questionnaire and photo submissions.
Personalized beauty brands are still finding their own ways to lean into accessibility. By entering retailers like Target and CVS with its nonprescription products, Curology is pursuing wider audiences. Similarly, this month, personalized hair care Being debuted at Walmart with customized shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments for different hair types and textures.
