Dive Brief:
- Shopping startup Curbside launched Monday at 10 Target stores in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Using the mobile app, shoppers can select items from a retailer's real-time inventory, add them to a cart, and checkout. The items will be available the same day for curbside or in-store pick up.
- The Palo Alto, CA-based company also announced that it has raised a total of $9.5 million in funding.
Dive Insight:
While same-day delivery may be the next new thing in e-commerce, same-day pickup may give brick-and-mortars a fighting chance against the always-agile Amazon and its shipping capacity. Curbside may find fans in those that don't want to pay the premium price for same-day delivery, yet want the instant gratification of in-store shopping.
