Dive Insight:
Telecommunications and infrastructure giant Huawei joined the smartwatch race last week ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona and what is presumably the official debut of the Apple Watch Monday. Huawei’s mobile phones and tablets are popular in its native China and other parts of the world, but the company so far has a minimal presence in the United States.
Designed by Fossil and Emporio Armani alum Ben Norton, the watch is intended to be a fashionable product that helps build Huawei’s image stateside. It offers more than 40 virtual faces and will come with Google’s Android smartwatch OS preinstalled.
