Dive Brief:
- Cherokee Inc. purchased licensed apparel subsidiary Hawk Designs Inc. from Quiksilver Inc. for $19 million, according to a Monday announcement.
- Hawk Designs is a signature apparel brand associated with famed skateboarder Tony Hawk, and it was acquired by Quiksilver in 2000.
- According to Cherokee, Kohl's will continue to sell Hawk Designs' products.
Dive Insight:
Cherokee chief executive Henry Stupp called the acquisition a great way for the global fashion and lifestyle brand marketer to start the year, and we agree. Hawk Designs is among the most prominent young mens' apparel brands in Kohl's stores, and with that relationship continuing, it already has a good deal of exposure among consumers.
Quiksilver, meanwhile, will use the money from the sale to pay back debt and invest in emerging markets as it continues to sell and exit its non-core businesses.
