Making Anta Sports the largest shareholder in Puma, the Chinese sports giant completed the acquisition of a 29.06% stake in Puma from Groupe Artémis for about 1.5 billion euros (nearly $1.7 billion at press time).
Anta Sports will seek representation on Puma’s supervisory board and has no plans to make a takeover offer for Puma, according to a Wednesday press release.
“Puma has a rich heritage and strong underlying brand value,” Ding Shizhong, board chairman of Anta Sports, said in a statement. “We have confidence in its management team and support the strategic transformation currently underway. As a long-term shareholder, we look forward to sharing our experience and capabilities, particularly in retail and operations, while respecting Puma's independence and brand identity. Our ambition is to support Puma in realizing its full potential and creating lasting value for consumers around the world.”
Anta’s vast portfolio also includes Anta, Fila, Descente, Kolon Sport, Maia Active and Jack Wolfskin. It is also a majority shareholder in Amer Sports, which owns Wilson, Arc’teryx, Salomon and more.
The move to purchase Groupe Artémis’ Puma stake was announced in January. Groupe Artémis is the investment company of the Pinault family, which bought a 29% stake in Puma from Kering about eight years ago.
The deal comes as Puma is undergoing a turnaround effort, which has included a leadership shakeup that began in 2025 and layoffs in October of last year.
