Stila bolsters cosmetic sales via commerce-enabled virtual makeover app
The company is using ModiFace’s facial recognition technology within the MakeUp iPhone application. Users can upload their photos to try on various products.
“Our strategy with Stila, is to raise awareness of their brand by creating both an online application for the Stila cosmetics Web site, as well as incorporating their products to our iPhone app MakeUp, and adding a makeover contest,” said Jennifer Tidy, partnerships manager and executive associate at ModiFace, Toronto, Ontario.
“We want to engage users by adding the contest as an incentive to their entertaining makeover process,” she said. “We are always looking to further the ability of our technology and push the limits – Stila really helped with that.”
Stila is known for its modern and sophisticated approach to beauty.
ModiFace is a technology provider for anti-aging, weight-loss, color cosmetics, and hairstyle virtual makeover technologies.

Stila is offering a contest for consumers who apply any combination of its shades to their own photo via the application and submit it.
The company is choosing three winners who will receive $250 worth of Stila products.

“The Modiface MakeUp app, really helps raises awareness for Stila, because we have quite a large number of users who have already become excited about the contest,” Ms. Tidy said. “We have had over 1000 submissions already.
“There’s also a link to buy the Stila products right from the app, which helps with ecommerce,”
Sharing looks
Using the application, consumers can share their makeover with friends via Facebook, Twitter and email.
“Next up for Modiface in the mobile world is, Augmented Reality,” Ms. Tidy said. “We have developed and launched a video application called Makeup Live.
“This app shows cosmetic makeover effects, on the user, in real time,” she said. “We will be expanding this with the soon-to-come Augmented Reality hairstyling app.”
