Gilt Groupe brings discount luxury shopping to consumers on the go
Gilt Groupe is letting consumers get the most coveted fashion and luxury labels at prices up to 70 percent off retail, right to the palm of their hands.
The company has launched an iPhone application that lets users be the first to enter Gilt.com sales and score the styles they want.
“The strategy behind the Gilt iPhone app is to respond to our member’s requests to shop Gilt sales while on the go,” said Shan Lyn Ma, director of product management for Gilt Groupe, New York. “We want to give our loyal members a simple, fast and seamless way to shop our coveted sales when they are not at their desks. We know our members lead busy lives.”
Gilt Groupe provides access, by invitation only, to men’s, women’s and children’s fashion and luxury brands at discounted prices. Each sale lasts 36 hours and features hand selected styles from a single designer.
The Gilt application is a fast end-to-end shopping experience on the iPhone.
Members can see live and upcoming sales, browse products, view detailed product images and checkout right on their device.
In fact, they can buy designer styles in six quick taps.
Ms. Ma said that members have been excited that they are now able to check out faster on the application than on the Web site.
One of Gilt.com’s members told the company he bought a shirt from the application in 30 seconds flat.
Gilt has done some experimental promotions in other iPhone applications, but this is the company’s first full-throttle entrance into mobile.

“The Gilt app was built first and foremost for our members who were calling and emailing us because they were not at their desks when sales started and were crying out for a mobile solution,” Ms. Ma said. “We’ve found that Apple has been a great platform to reach existing members, as well as talk to new members whose first experience of Gilt Groupe is through the iPhone.
“We are actively promoting the Gilt app on our Web site and in our daily emails,” she said. “The app has received some great coverage in blogs such as NYTimes Gadgetwise. We were fortunate to be featured in one of the prime spots within the iTunes App Store, and this really helped us introduce many new iPhone users to Gilt Groupe.”
