Guinness is the most considered beer among US beer drinkers who earn $150,000+ annually, a new report from YouGov finds.
Heineken ranks first among Americans aged 21-24, Corona Extra leads among 35-64s, and Samuel Adams is the most considered among the 65+ age group.
Beer in mind: Drinking moment brand winners 2024 uncovers drinking preferences across gender and generations, before highlighting the beer brands winning various drinking occasions.
The report finds that:
- Fruity beers are much more popular with Americans aged 21-34 (47% vs 27% of all US beer drinkers)
- Americans aged 65+ care more about a beer brand’s reputation (37%) than price (35%), the only generation where this is true
- 36% of US beer drinkers spend $25+ per month on beer consumed at home
- Guinness is the most considered beer among Americans making $150k+
- 64% of US beer drinkers consume alcohol when hanging out with friends, where Corona Extra is most considered; meanwhile, 36% drink alcohol while watching sports games, where Bud Light is more likely to be considered
“From sports to happy hour to meals to drinking alone, there’s a staggering diversity in beer consideration across the nine different drinking occasions we analyzed,” said Kenton Barello, VP at YouGov America. “It’s important for beer brand marketers to not just understand who they’re competing with, but also when.”
In total, the report identifies 31 beers which distinctly appeal to different demographic groups or types of drinkers.
