StubHub increases mobile ticket sales via Android app
Ticket sellers can manage existing ticket listings via the application. The StubHub Android application includes features that showcase live events based on the user’s preferences and location.
“StubHub’s Android app product provides great features for both ticket buyers and sellers,” said Dre Madden, head of digital marketing at StubHub, San Francisco. “The app allows buyers to hook in to all of StubHub’s ticket inventory, view upcoming events, browse by team, artist, show, venue, and buy tickets directly from their phone via our customized mobile checkout.
“We are providing sellers with the convenience of viewing their orders and managing their listings,” he said. “For example, sellers can change the ticket prices and delete or deactivate tickets on the fly.”
StubHub, an eBay company, is a ticket marketplace that lets users buy or sell their tickets.
Tailored for fans
The company tailored the application’s navigation and user interface specifically for Android devices as a way to provide users with a simple way to track events.
Users can tag favorite sports teams and bands to follow them throughout the season, as well as on tour.
In addition, the application also provides detailed ticket information prior to buying a ticket, such as where the user’s seats are located.
“We want sports, concert and theater fans to be able to find events they are most interested in, and purchase tickets from anywhere, anytime, via their mobile device,” Mr. Madden said. “We also want our sellers to have the convenience to make simple changes without having to go back to their computers.
“We are putting the most relevant StubHub services right on your mobile device, so we can be with our customers anywhere they want to be,” he said. “We are not currently using any Android specific features in this initial version.
“We are looking to include interactive widgets, notifications and voice searching in future releases.”
Mobile tickets
The application lets ticket vendors benefit from open access to their listings such as the ability to view, delete and deactivate listings.
Additionally, ticket sellers can edit ticket prices and in-hand dates.
Users who download the application can get the same FanProtect Guarantee that is offered on the StubHub Web site.
The application claims to protect users’ personal information and lets fans buy tickets using their existing StubHub account, via PayPal or credit card.
“It’s important for us to offer multiple platforms as that is what are customers are asking for – our goal is to make sure customers with smartphones can access StubHub,” Mr. Madden said. “One year ago, we focused on developing mobile products that allow fans with smartphones to access StubHub in an easy-to-use and fun way.
“Today, we provide apps for the iPhone and Android customers, as well as StubHub’s mobile Web site, using HTLM5 and this cross-platform strategy supports the majority of our smartphone customers,” he said. “We are providing this app so that fans can find the events and tickets they are looking for.
“In addition to event discovery, we are allowing customers to purchase tickets straight from their android app. Therefore, we are monetizing the app via ticket sales revenue.”
