Dive Brief:
-
EBay continues its shape-shifting with two major appointments of independent directors to its board: GoPro president and former Skype executive Tony Bates and Red Cross CEO Gail McGovern.
-
EBay Monday also appointed Jonathan Christodoro, who had been rejected last year as “insufficiently qualified,” as part of an agreement with investor Carl Icahn.
-
With Bates and McGovern, the company has 17 directors, 15 of them independent. After its May 1 meeting, the board will have 15 members, 13 independent because William C. Ford and Richard T. Schlosberg are leaving then.
Dive Insight:
Layoffs and changes are the name of the game for both eBay and PayPal as they prepare to part ways. These appointments come after the announcements of new CEOs at each company. High-profile director Marc Andreessen left the board in October, after a bruising fight with activist investor Carl Icahn, who had pushed the split of the companies that is now underway.
